UN chief honors Amir as ‘Humanitarian Leader’ – Sheikh Sabah recounts Kuwait’s charitable initiatives

Ban Ki-moon said HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has shown “remarkable acts of human kindness and generosity” and Kuwait “exemplary humanitarian leadership” in the support of humanitarian operations in nati

ons in crisis around the world. “We are here today to pay tribute to the humanitarian leadership of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. We thank the Amir and the people of Kuwait for their outstanding generosity tow

ards Syrians and Iraqis in need,” he said in remarks at a ceremony recognizing the humanitarian leadership of the Amir at the UN headquarters in New York.

Sheikh Sabah, honored by Ban as a “Humanitarian Leader”, announced that Kuwait would double its annual contribution to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CEFR) to $1 million. “I am pleased to announce before you of doubling our fixed annual voluntary contribution to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to USD one million,” Sheikh Sabah said in a speech.
